The Best Slide Deck Skills for Claude Code
There are two different jobs hiding under "make a deck": editing a real PowerPoint file, and generating slides from scratch. The skills that do one are bad at the other.
Our documents category has 22 skills and the slide-deck cluster is its strongest, including the highest-scoring skill in the entire directory outside the developer category.
Editing real files
pptx — 9.7 · Documents
Reads, edits, and creates .pptx/.potx files — including tracked changes, layouts, and templates. This is the skill that works on files people actually send you. It scores 9.7, the highest in this list, and the margin is real: native file manipulation is a different engineering problem from rendering images of slides.
Generating decks
baoyu-slide-deck — 9.3 · Documents
Generates slide-deck images from content, building the outline first and then rendering. The image-based approach produces visually consistent decks — every slide shares a design language — at the cost of being editable only by regenerating.
codex-ppt — 9.2 · Documents
Turns articles and reports into image-based PPT/PPTX decks. Similar approach to baoyu-slide-deck, with a different visual system. Choose by output style rather than by score.
luobo-ppt — unscored · Documents
One-stop PPT generation and beautification producing editable native .pptx. Included because its output format is different from the two above — native and editable — but note it currently has no published score, so treat it as unvetted.
Narrative
pitch-narrative-builder — 8.5 · Marketing
Builds the narrative for a pitch or fundraising deck — the argument, not the slides. Worth installing before a deck generator: a well-designed deck with a weak argument is still a weak deck.
presentation-styling — 8.0 · Documents
CSS classes, component patterns, and syntax highlighting for a specific presentation framework. Only useful if you are using that framework.
presentation-structure — 7.3 · Documents
Slide format, weight system, and navigation for the same framework. Scores lowest of the group and is the most tool-bound — install only alongside presentation-styling.
Native or image-based
This is the decision that matters:
- Native
.pptx(pptx,luobo-ppt) — editable by colleagues, works with corporate templates, survives handoff. Use when the deck will be edited by other people. - Image-based (
baoyu-slide-deck,codex-ppt) — better visual consistency, worse editability. Use for one-way presentation or published decks.
Most teams need the native option and reach for the image-based one because it looks better in a screenshot.
How to choose
- Someone will edit it later?
pptx. - Presenting once, want it to look designed?
baoyu-slide-deckorcodex-ppt. - Fundraising or sales?
