E-Commerce Is Bimodal: 9.1 Strategy, 3.2 Checkout
The e-commerce batch is the clearest example of why an average is a bad summary. Ten skills from one repository average 4.67. The actual distribution runs from 3.2 to 9.1.
Eight of the ten score below 5.0.
What the two good ones do
dynamic-pricing-ecommerce is a decision framework: it asks for cost, demand signals, competitor prices, and margin constraints, then produces a pricing recommendation with the tradeoffs named. It is a skill in the sense of a repeatable procedure.
product-description-generator produces a concrete artifact with a structure: title, benefits, specifications, and a call to action. It is not a strategy, but it has inputs, a procedure, and an output.
What the eight thin ones do
The low-scoring files are short how-to pages. They describe a topic — conversion rate optimization, Shopify SEO, email flows — and give general advice. They do not ask for the store's data, do not branch on the situation, and do not define what a finished output looks like.
At 1,000 to 2,000 characters, they are among the shortest skills in the batch. Across the batch, skills in that length band average 3.40; the correlation between length and score is 0.542. Length is not the cause of quality, but in this repository it is a reliable symptom.
The footer cluster
Nine skills in the batch contain a promotional footer pointing to the same vendor. Eight of the nine score below 5.0. The exception is qbr-ebr-builder at 8.7, which came from a different repository but carries a similar footer.
This is not evidence that a footer causes a low score. It is evidence that the footer is a marker of a certain production process: a marketing page with a skill wrapper, rather than a skill written to be executed.
What would fix it
The thin files need the same three things the good ones have: a request-shaped trigger, a procedure that asks for the store's actual data, and a defined output. That is a rewrite, not a formatting pass.
If you are shopping for e-commerce skills, start with the two that score above 8 and treat the rest as a reading list. The full category is at the e-commerce directory.
