The Best Image Generation Skills for Claude Code

2026-10-17

Image generation skills differ less in what they call and more in what they know. The model is often the same; the value is in the prompt structure and the output pipeline.

Five skills in the directory generate images, and they cover three jobs: general generation, specific asset types, and model-specific prompting.

The skills worth installing

baoyu-image-gen — 9.3 · Design & Creative

Image generation across OpenAI GPT Image 2, Azure OpenAI, Google, and OpenRouter. The highest-scoring general tool, and the multi-provider support is the real feature: providers differ in cost, latency, and what they are good at, and you want to switch without rewriting the workflow.

baoyu-cover-image — 9.2 · Design & Creative

Article cover images, generated across five dimensions — type, palette, rendering, and two more — which is a more useful abstraction than a single prompt. Covers are the highest-volume image task for most content sites, and consistency across covers matters more than any individual image.

dashscope — 9.0 · Documents

Alibaba Cloud DashScope (阿里云百炼) integration for image generation and related models. Relevant if you are already in that ecosystem or need access to Qwen-family models.

imagegen — 8.9 · Design & Creative

Everything visual a website needs: illustrations, logos, mascots, covers, posters, OG images, and favicon sources. Broad by design — useful when you need a set of assets with a consistent look rather than one image.

flux-best-practices — 8.2 · Design & Creative

Prompting and technique for BFL FLUX models. Not a generator — a guide. Included because model-specific knowledge is where output quality actually comes from; the API call is the easy part.

What the scores mean here

The spread (8.2–9.3) is narrower than in most categories, because these skills are wrappers around external models. The differences are in provider coverage, asset specialization, and prompt knowledge — not in image quality, which the model controls.

That also means the score is a weak guide by itself. Choose by output type:

A cost note

Image generation is the most expensive per-call operation in most agent workflows. Multi-provider skills make it easy to route cheap drafts to a cheaper model and only spend on final renders — which is a workflow decision worth making deliberately rather than by default.

The design category covers diagrams, infographics, and design systems.
